Winter can be harsh on your skin. Cold air, indoor heating, and low humidity strip moisture from your skin. Our Esthetics Program teaches students the science behind great skin—even in the winter months. Here are our top tips for keeping your skin glowing all season.
Choose a richer moisturizer. Your skin needs more hydration in winter. Switch to a cream-based moisturizer to lock in moisture.
Don’t skip your lips. Use a hydrating lip balm with SPF. Lips are especially prone to dryness in the cold.
Say no to harsh cleansers. Use a gentle, hydrating cleanser to avoid stripping your skin’s natural oils.
Stick to lukewarm water. Hot water feels great but dries out your skin. Opt for lukewarm instead.
Apply products in the right order. Start with serums, then layer on moisturizers and oils. This helps lock in hydration.
Don’t forget SPF. Even in winter, UV rays can damage your skin. Use sunscreen daily.
Invest in a humidifier. Indoor heating dries out the air. A humidifier keeps your skin hydrated.
Keep it clean. Change the water in your humidifier regularly to prevent mold and bacteria.
Don’t overdo it. Exfoliating too much can irritate winter skin. Stick to once or twice a week.
Use gentle products. Opt for enzyme or lactic acid-based exfoliants for a softer touch.
Drink plenty of water. Hydration isn’t just topical. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Eat water-rich foods. Incorporate fruits and vegetables like cucumbers and oranges into your diet.
Cover up. Wear scarves and gloves to shield your skin from windburn and cold air.
Reapply moisturizer. Cold weather can dry your skin quickly. Reapply as needed throughout the day.
Use hydrating masks. Once a week, treat your skin to a mask with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or aloe vera.
DIY options work too. Mix honey and yogurt for a natural, soothing mask.
Turn down the thermostat. High heat indoors can zap moisture from your skin. Keep the temperature moderate.
Layer up instead. Dress warmly to stay cozy without cranking up the heat.
